This 1987 Buick Regal Turbo-T, VIN 1G4GJ1172HP432827, is being offered for sale by Gem Classic Cars. The car has a strong and well-documented history. Originally delivered in New Jersey, it was later purchased by Martin Grill in Virginia in 2007, who rebuilt the engine shortly after acquiring it at around 101,000 miles. A Virginia inspection in October 2007 confirmed 101,239 miles, and transmission work in February 2015 documented 101,520 miles.
The car was originally finished in black but was repainted in the 1990s in a flip-flop color that changed hues depending on the light. That finish remained until 2019, when the current owner stripped it down and repainted it in a rich Black/Black Cherry color from the 1996 Impala SS. The car was reassembled and returned to the road in 2020. During its maiden drive with the new paint, a rocker shaft failed — the only component not updated in the 2007 rebuild. The engine was pulled in 2021, the issue corrected, and the engine bay detailed. The car has been driven sparingly since returning to the road in fall 2023.
Under the current ownership, extensive work has been completed, including new weatherstrip and felts, refinished wheels with new tires, a multifunction switch, and a shifter handle, among other details. The car presents very well, with a clean underside free of rust. The paint is excellent overall, with a minor flaw on the flat surface of both doors.
The interior remains largely original, showing typical age with a single crack in the padded dash and two small cracks in the lower dash panel. The car is fitted with an aftermarket radio and the A/C is currently non-functional. As is typical with these cars, the hydroboost braking system works normally in everyday driving but can feel firm under sudden, aggressive use.
Importantly, this car comes with a perfect Carfax showing no accidents ever reported. Production of the Turbo-T in 1987 was limited to just 1,547 units, making it far rarer than the Grand National, which saw 20,193 examples built that year. Lightweight and understated compared to the GN, the Turbo-T was the choice for enthusiasts who valued performance with subtlety.
This Turbo-T represents a clean, well-sorted, and well-documented example of Buick’s legendary turbocharged muscle cars, freshly refinished in an elegant modern color while retaining its authentic character and performance pedigree.
